46th Vietnam National Conference on Parasitology
Ha Noi, Vietnam,5-6 April 2019
Nguyen Thi Bich Van, ViParc research assistant, participated in the 46th National Conference on Parasitology held in Ha Noi from 5-6 April 2019. The conference, focusing on zoonotic and emerging parasitic diseases of humans, poultry and livestock, included the participation of a large of number of Vietnamese and international parasitologists, medical doctors and veterinarians. Ms. Van presented ViParc research on gastrointestinal helminths in commercial small-scale chicken farms in the Mekong Delta. Results of this research showed that over 50% chickens were colonised by helminths, being the nematodes Ascaridia galli and Heterakis gallinarum the two most common species found in chickens, and that levels of colonisation had an important impact on birds’ live weight and therefore an impact on health and productivity.
