Training on Poultry Disease Diagnostics
Dong Thap, Vietnam, 27-30 March 2017
As part of the ViParc project, 12 officers from the Dong Thap Sub-Department of Animal Health (DT-SDAH) attended an intensive course on diagnostics from 27-30 March 2017.
Hands-on training was delivered, helping the participants learn to tackle viral, bacterial and parasitic poultry diseases using a multi-angle approach that included on-farm investigation, necropsy, and laboratory testing. Analysis of morbidity and mortality in chickens from seven farms in the province was led by Dr. Niwat Chansiripornchai, poultry veterinary expert from Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Alexis Ribas, parasitologist based at Udon Thani Rajabhat University.
This training component was designed to enhance DT-SDAH’s capacity for accurate diagnosis of chicken diseases, ensuring that their vets would give sound advice to farmers during the intervention phase of ViParc, when a select number of farms in the project are expected to receive veterinary support and observe prudent use of antimicrobials.
